"In July of 2011, we were blessed with our amazing son, Brody. He was born 10 weeks premature and with several disabilities, but he was so full of sunshine and love. He was determined and courageous, and always smiling. Brody had multiple hospital stays, including three months in the NICU after his birth, thirteen surgeries, and multiple medical procedures throughout four years. He worked hard every day and never complained. Brody overcame most of his challenges through his stubbornness, the help of amazing programs and therapists, and the love and support of his family. In July of 2015, shortly after his fourth birthday, he learned to walk independently, and in September, he learned how to eat nearly 100% of his daily intake by mouth. These were huge accomplishments for him and something we had worked toward for years! Our amazing son, who we were told would likely never walk, was doing so by himself! Brody, who had been fed via a feeding tube his entire life, was now eating orally and enjoying it!
In October of that same year, Brody developed an infection and his health quickly deteriorated. Tragically, he passed away just six hours prior to his little brother's birth. Brody taught us in his short life that we were made to do hard things; and that we can do them with a smile. Giving birth to my fourth child so shortly after Brody passed away, proved to me that I could follow Brody's example and do hard things too. We hope Brody's story inspires you to believe in yourself, and know that we were made to do hard things; and that you can too."
