From Edith's mama -
"At just twenty-five weeks along in my pregnancy we received the news that our unborn daughter’s heart was broken. Our Edith was born in May of 2016 with two cardiac defects: congenital complete heart block and a large VSD. She underwent her first cardiac surgery at just five months old. Today, Edith is a spicy 22 month old, with a pacemaker, who loves playing outside, chasing her dog, and coloring on the walls.
Through her diagnosis and life, our family has developed the mantra “live kind. love big.” For us, living kinder means starting with empathy. We don’t have to answer the hard stuff to walk with people through it. We’re not often fully aware of what people are going through and regardless we try to be more generous with our time, our talents, and our finances because we’ve experienced that kind of kindness. To love big is to love outside of comfort zones and without condition. We had to learn to love a child we might lose - a love that, though difficult, births relationships deeper than those born out of comfort.
Our family and community has partnered with our local children’s hospital to live kind and love big on the families that are inpatient. We are throwing a party for the patients and their families, complete with a meal, entertainment, and gifts! We’re relying on donations to make it happen."
