Since we knew about his diagnosis before his birth, he was able to receive his VP shunt quickly. During his battle though he has been suffering through severe epilepsy. We had a routine of 911 calls and 2-3 day hospital stays every 2 to 2 1/2 weeks like clockwork. He became very I'll with multiple respiratory illnesses in February and had a seizure that couldn't be stopped, causing him to "code" and have to be sedated and intubated. After multiple attempts to keep him off a breathing tube, sedation meds, a blood transfusion, and needing to be revived twice, he ended up getting a tracheotomy. The hospital was our home for 2 months straight. Due to such traumatic brain injury from his seizures Cortland no longer has the strength to crawl. We have gone from days to his first steps, to now not being sure it will happen. It's been months since I've heard his voice, but I still videos to remind me. With therapy we still work to these goals, but his epilepsy and hospital stays keep taking us 3 steps back. He may only be 2 but I have never seen anyone fight a battle like him and teach me more about strength."
