"Hi guys! I'm Allison, wife to Sol and mom to Silas, AKA Squirty/#smalldude/Mighty Si or whatever other moniker we decided to give him after entering the world 5 years ago! He's one heck of a kid, who despite all odds, is thriving! Let's back up, Si was born with a slew of congenital defects, many of which we were aware of thanks to the devastating news we received at our "something is wrong with your baby" 20 week anatomy ultrasound. For 17 more weeks, I prayed that the doctor's predictions were wrong and clung to the hope that Jesus would answer my prayers and heal him. As you may have guessed, that didn't happen - yet. We found out Silas had a rare chromosome abnormality (Monosomy 9p/16q Trisomy) that caused all of these issues. His particular chromosome issue is "de novo" and is "new in him" meaning we are not genetic carriers and cannot pass this on to other children (good news for little brother Jett!). The past 5 years have included many doctors and many diagnoses including congenital heart defects, Chiari Malformation, kyphoscoliosis, growth hormone deficiency, feeding issues, and bilateral club feet to name a few. He is also g-tube fed, non-verbal, non-ambulatory and globally delayed. I tell you all of this not so you feel sorry for him or us, but to let you -whoever that may be- know that "Hey, we're going through that too". Okay, maybe feel sorry just a little, each one of those diagnoses comes with it's own doctor which is enough to make any mom go straight to crazytown. This little #smalldude has come so far and he isn't quite the squirt he used to be. In fact, he's 40lbs now and lifting that kid isn't as easy as it once was. When @threadsofheart contacted me letting me know our family had been chosen for this campaign, I immediately knew what the proceeds would go towards - a handicap accessible van for Silas. Guys, never in a million years did I see myself having a child with special needs, or driving around a handicap van, or having more doctor appointments in one month than some have in a year! I couldn't have predicted this life just like the doctor's couldn't predict Si's either. He's LIVING and GROWING and in KINDERGARTEN! We have been so blessed by his progress and the continued support from his amazing tribe. With all that being said, please Jesus take the wheel of this handicap ride and I'll buckle up, we're in it for the long haul! xoxo, Allison"
